Brief Description

In this module students will study the technical aspects of theatre production and how various elements, including stage management,lighting design, sound design, costume design and set design, contribute to performance.

Indicative Syllabus

Students will study a range of technical and design-based theatre roles before choosing one area to focus on.  They will be supported in developing their understanding of this role through theory and practical delivery.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Understand and apply the complex work of backstage personnel for a live performance.
  2. Demonstrate a systematic understanding of key practices.
  3. Engage actively with the skills and processes of production, design and rehearsal by which a performance is created.
  4. Communicate effectively with a wide range of people and in a variety of formats.
  5. Manage personal workloads efficiently and effectively, meet deadlines and negotiate and pursue goals with others.
