Brief Description

In this module students will study the skills and choreographic tools required for creating a piece of integrated contemporary dance.  This will be delivered in conjunction with a professional integrated dance company. Students will be encouraged to manage and self-direct their own projects.This module is Category A under the University’s Active Engagement in Learning Scheme. This means that absence from specified sessions will result in a loss of marks (5% from the final module mark for each occasion of non- attendance).

Indicative Syllabus

This module will enable the student to develop an inventive quality to their independent research through adaptation, problem solving and the opportunity to work in uncharted choreographic territory. Students will recap movement vocabulary and will explore and challenge traditional ideas about dance and choreography. The creative element of the module will increase a deeper understanding of collaboration and communication within the creative arts.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Appreciate the need for ethical responsibility when using arts practice for a wide client group.
  2. Devise and collaborate to produce original work.
  3. Appreciate the impact that the performing arts have on society and vice versa.
  4. Engage creatively and critically with the creation and production of performance through a developed and sensitive understanding of appropriate performance vocabularies, techniques, structures and working methods.
  5.  Demonstrate an understanding of correct dance technique.
