Brief Description | This module will focus on the management provision of accommodation services: front office, housekeeping and facility management. It will address the importance and independence of those three disciplines through theoretical as well as practical application. |
Indicative Syllabus | - The range of topics will include: the synergy of front office, housekeeping and facility management, the practical use of computer-based reservation systems, front office processes and procedures including check-in, communications and front office practices. The organising and managing of a housekeeping department with respect to staffing, cleaning and maintenance, exploration of the facility design, layout, capacity planning and the measurement of facilities performance. |
Learning Outcomes | On completion of this module students should be able to: 1. Evaluate the nature, scope and organisation of front office, housekeeping and facilities management in the hotel and resort sectors. 2. Develop the knowledge and understanding of the front office guest cycle including the making, confirming, checking and checkout of guests. 3. Develop the knowledge and understanding of the operational and management aspects of running a housekeeping department. 4. Evaluate the principles of contemporary hospitality facilities design and capacity planning. 5. Analyse and evaluate approaches to measuring the performance of hotel and resort facilities. 6. Apply a range of skills, including: written and oral and visual presentation skills, use ICT skills to access and present relevant data and evidence and effectively plan and manage the independent learning experience. |
