Brief Description

The module will introduce students to the necessary theoretical, practical and industry-specific knowledge needed to be able to identify a range of risk and legal issues within contemporary society.

Indicative Syllabus

The module seeks to establish a framework within which students can develop appropriate risk prevention strategies for the safe management of industry specific activities. The module analyses a range of legal issues in order to promote good practice and compliance.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a critical awareness of the broader concepts and perceptions of risk and legal issues in contemporary society;
  2. Analyse and evaluate a range of risk assessment tools and be able to make effective use of them;
  3. Assess the distinctions between hazards and risks, both real and perceived;
  4. Identify and analyse key legal industry issues;
  5. Demonstrate a critical understanding of different risk prevention strategies;
  6. Identify, analyse and communicate a range of key legal concepts associated with risk management and compliance; and

 

7. Demonstrate a range of key skills that are required to evaluate situations and make critical judgments: communication and literacy; problem solving; independent working and learning; specific vocational skills of risk assessment and compliance.
