Brief Description

In this module students will study the history of dance. Alongside this they will study different styles of dance practically with weekly classes in ballet,tap, contemporary and jazz.

Indicative Syllabus

Students will study the development of dance as an art form from the ancient Greeks to the present day.  There will be practical study of various dance styles supported by an academic approach to study.  The whole course will be underpinned with practical dance classes in a variety ofstyles. Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a systematic understanding of key practitioners and practices, both contemporary and historical.
  2. Analyse current practices in a range of dance genres whilst recognising their historical antecedents.
  3. Appreciate the impact that the performing arts have on society and vice versa.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of correct dance technique.
