Brief Description | The module aims to provide the basis for students to identify the diversity of special interest tourism products and the socio-cultural context in which they have developed and are managed. |
Indicative Syllabus | The module presents special interest tourism and its relationship with mass tourism through an analysis of significant factors that have enabled a wide diversity of special interest tourism products to emerge. It investigates the key concept of market segmentation and tourist demand elements and how these have drawn upon a wide natural and cultural resource base to create new products. Authenticity and resource commodification emerge as key issues that must be addressed by tourism managers as they seek to manoeuvre their products in the wider socio-economic environment. |
