Brief Description

The aim of this module is to identify and analyse the role of travel, transport and intermediaries in the tourism system.

Indicative Syllabus

The tourism system acts as a framework for interpreting the relationship between travel, transport and tourism. Tourism flows, the modes of transport, the use of terminals and the key regulatory organisations and their processes are all identified and interpreted in terms of their place in tourism access and travel products. The wider socio-environmental impacts of transport in tourism are also identified and analysed along with the transport sector responses.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Identify the relationships between travel and transport modes in tourism;
  2. Understand the factors that influence the flow of tourists from places of origin to in and around destination areas;
  3. Identify and understand the role of intermediaries in facilitating the travel and transport elements of tourism products;
  4. Identify the impacts of transport modes within both the tourism system and its wider socio-political context;
  5. Understand the processes and organisations involved in the regulation and control of transport and travel in tourism; and
  6. Demonstrate a range of key skills that are required to evaluate the contemporary travel, transport and tourism relationship such as: Communication and literacy; Problem Solving; and Independent working and learning.
