Brief Description | This module allows students to undertake a period of work based learning in a suitable employment environment. Students will also create a professional portfolio of work and develop presentation skills. The work experience may comprise one or more placements. It is envisaged that a minimum total of two weeks’ work will have been completed during the course. High level skills will be exchanged between employers and students through experiencing shared understandings of working practices, negotiating cultural differences and sustaining closer relations. |
Indicative Syllabus | The purpose of the work placement is to provide students with an understanding of how knowledge and skills already acquired are applied in the workplace and to help to clarify future study and employment objectives. The production of a work based study is designed to help students understand what works well in practice and how to effectively engage with employers. It is intended that employers and co-workers exchange high level skills with students in order to produce partnership working. An initial seminar will introduce students to the art of portfolio creation. Lectures by visiting professionals during the MA course will highlight the requirements of successful portfolio management, and ways of catching and holding the listener’s/viewer’s attention. Students will develop a professional portfolio, compiling and presenting best examples of their work online or on disc. There will be technical instruction on the basics of DVD/online authoring and computer presentation techniques and tutorial supervision. Students will be required to provide an assessable presentation to their peer group (methodology for dissemination to be agreed by tutor) providing an overview of their experiences. |
