Furthermore, students will be encouraged to develop frameworks, which critically evaluate CAL systems.
Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and Understanding
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
a) investigate the concept of learning and conditions of learning and their relationships to various methods of learning and training via computer-based materials,
b) analyse and critically evaluate CAL and CBT packages with regard to user and organisational needs,
c) consolidate the breadth and depth of knowledge sufficient to make rational and informed decisions about CAL, CBT and multimedia as education/training tools,
d) have an opportunity to question, explore, and suggest alternative solutions to current issues

ii. Skills

By the end of the module students should have developed skills in:
Communication and Literacy: students will gain theoretical and practical experience of using a range of sources to research current applications of CAL and CBT within contrasting environments. They will be required to perform substantial analysis of the field in order to produce suitable critical evaluations. They will during the course of the module have the opportunity to communicate their research via participation in informal presentations.

Problem solving: problem solving strategies are via critically applying evaluation methods when dealing with CAL and CBT software.

Independent Learning and working: aspects of self-learning, planning, managing information and reflection are developed.

Information and Communications Technology: all work is word processed and the assessments require the knowledge and application of CAL or CBT applications.

Specific vocational skills: all software is standard in the multimedia industry.

Learning and Teaching Activities Staff/student contact: 20% including lectures, seminars, discussion groups and practical sessions.
Student private study: 80%, including exploration of set tasks such as questionnaires, investigation and research of CAL/CBT products
