Brief Description | Students develop their proposals from level 2 and apply extended research, with visual and cultural analysis, to write, illustrate and produce a research portfolio that critically analyses the development of their major project. |
Indicative Syllabus | To engage with the wide range of visual cultural and media reference points introduced and explored at level 1 and 2. Selecting relevant and useful texts, ideas and approaches to analyse the development process and overall objectives of the major project as a research experiment. To demonstrate an understanding of what all visual texts communicate. Demonstrating a sustained ability to apply these ideas to the questions which arise from the practical and visual development process and those of their primary and secondary objectives and to communicate an understanding of the impact, implications and issues these ideas have in our contemporary culture. To demonstrate an understanding of the process of production and consumption of media texts and their role in constructing and shaping our understandings of ourselves, of other people and the context in which we experience the world. This allows for a flexible and rigorous approach to combine theory with a practical outcome. The project will take various forms but must involve a use of theoretical and visual research, a detailed critical analysis and evaluation of students practical work and be centered around a series of practical research experiments which identify specific research objectives. The practical research experiment agreed in advance in discussion with their module tutor will be informed by these objectives and will be referenced and informed by an extensive diverse and inclusive range of reading and investigation evidenced in a bibliography and written conclusion. |
