Brief Description This module provides the opportunity to undertake a negotiated independent study. It is envisaged that the outcome will be a body of practical work but a period of work placement may also be taken as part of this module. The assigned tutor for student's subject will agree assessable outcomes based on student's written proposal.
Indicative Syllabus Students will be expected to negotiate, and thereafter initiate their brief, or briefs, with the advice of the module tutor (tutor allocated will be from area of practical study in which module is to be undertaken). The proposal will be required in word-processed format and will form part of the assessable work. Briefs should provide the opportunity to research into a subject of personal interest. The student's proposal should clearly identify aims and objectives of the work. It is expected that the brief will allow students to demonstrate a high level of understanding, control and individuality, commensurate with level III work and requirements. It is helpful if students carefully read the assessment criteria to ensure their initial proposal provides opportunity to achieve the range of requirements examined at assessment. Students should be ambitious, visit exhibitions, and be aware of the critical thinking, the leading players and the contemporary work of designers, photographers and other creative artists, which may help their work. This should help their work to be cutting edge, vital at this stage of their study.
