Brief Description

This is a workplace module in which learners will be required to demonstrate competences and the ability to practice reflectively in the context of the Negotiated Learning Agreement. Competences selected should match work roles, but are likely to include the core competences for health and social care and the core dimensions of the KSF. This module is mapped to the National Occupational Standards.

Indicative Syllabus

This module will cover the following topics:

  • Systems for promoting dignity and independence and other indicators of good practice in care;
  • Methods of recording information in line with workplace policy and practice;
  • The ability to use coaching and workplace opportunities for self-management and own continuing professional development.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On successful completion of the module students should be able to:

a) Critically apply health and social care theory to practice;
b) Critically reflect on own health and social care practice and the observed practice of others in order to develop own practice wisdom broaden and deepen own practice wisdom and to implement evidence based practice;
c) Apply systematic methods to the continued improvement of self management and that of others.



ii. Skills
On successful completion of the module the student should be able to:
a) Practice in health and social care in a competent manner in accordance with the Negotiated Learning Agreement;
b) Use coaching sessions to become a competent health and social care reflective practitioner;
c) Effectively evidence health and social care competence in a CPD portfolio.
