Students must be Health professionals with a minimum Diploma level qualification in a related subject, working in a Health Care environment, and be registered on the NHS Flying Start England preceptorship programme.

Brief Description

The module aims to provide professional development for health professionals working in clinical settings to provide support for pre-qualification students from their respective professions in the clinical arena through mentorship, supervision and teaching, reflecting the recommendations, where appropriate, of professional regulatory bodies, and to be able to contribute to general teaching and learning opportunities within their clinical setting.

Indicative Syllabus

This module will cover the following topics:

  • learning from the NHS preceptorship on-line programme Flying Start England; the significance of learning opportunities for professional development; evaluation of the quality of learning opportunities, critically evaluating learning from experience;
  • The relationship and integration of theory and practice.
Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Utilize an understanding of learning styles to be proactive in securing; learning opportunities in practice following the on-line Flying Start England programme;
  2. Critically reflect on personal learning opportunities in practice;
  3. Critically review opportunities for organisational learning that has resulted from the practice based experience within and between professional areas;
  4. Self-assessment and links with development planning skills for self and others
  5. Responding to and developing learning opportunities available in practice for workplace development within the Flying Start England programme;
  6. Reflective writing and portfolio development skills including the way that evidence is used to reform and enhance practice.
