Brief Description

Recent changes within healthcare provision impact on care delivered within the community. This module enables students to explore and develop a critical awareness about the influence of contemporary local and national policies, targets and guidelines encouraging the student to critically review their impact on clinical practice within the community.

Indicative Syllabus

The module aims to provide professional development for newly qualified clinical staff, working within the community setting, reflecting contemporary issues and emerging research impacting on community care, including multi-professionalism and inter-disciplinary working.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Review critically contemporary local and national policies relating to community based care including the importance of working across sectors and discipline areas;
  2. Discuss critically the impact of policy, guidance and targets on health care provision and on clinical skills in the community;
  3. Discuss critically national guidelines and recommendations for Community care;
  4. Review critically the impact of local health policies on clinical practice (e.g. Working Alone, Translation & Interpretation etc);
  5. Review critically the impact of service priorities on clinical care;
  6. Critically review national guidelines, interpret national policy and research and its impact on local working practice.
