Brief Description This marketing module builds on the concepts introduced in HPM103 and provides students with an understanding of the principles and practice of both services, and experiential, marketing in the sector.
Indicative Syllabus This is the second of a suite of multi-disciplinary modules – HPM103, HPM205 & HPM302 - that run through each of the fields in the service sector management portfolio. The module will cover a range of theoretical marketing theories and models. Beginning by establishing underpinning principles of product marketing, moving onto to the challenge of services marketing and latterly evaluating the experiential marketing paradigm.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On completion of this module students should be able to:
a) Critically appraise the nature of product, services and experiential marketing paradigms within a sector context.
b) Apply principles and concepts of marketing to a range of different sector contexts.
c) Identify importance and role of internal marketing
d) Develop a marketing plan for a specific hospitality operation.



ii.Skills
Students will be given the opportunity to develop their key skills in the following areas during the course of this module:
a) Communication and literacy
b)  Problem solving
c) Independent learning and working
d) Working with others
e) ICT

Learning and Teaching Activities Staff/student contact: 10% lectures, 10% workbook based tutorial exercises/seminars; 80% Student private study: including independent learning tasks as detailed in the module guide, preparation for lectures, essay writing and exam preparation.
Assessment (For further details see the Module Guide) 001: 70% Coursework: Group work and report: 4000 words or equivalent
002: 30% Coursework: Standard: 1500 words or equivalent
