Brief Description This module will study the principles of design and planning of facilities applicable to leisure, sport and associated activities, tourism and hospitality operations. It encourages students to analyse the design of facilities using a range of criteria appropriate to a specific area of study. Project planning and management are evaluated in a context of long-term goals and overall feasibility.
Indicative Syllabus This module will cover a range of issues related to the development, extension and conversion of properties, to fit the purpose for which they are designed. Legislation, finance, and aesthetic and practical design will be addressed.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
a) Critically examine facilities with regards to fitness for purpose
b) Apply the range of financial and legislative criteria to a given planning situation
c) Evaluate appropriate materials and finishes
d) Analyse the importance of various aspects of design including interior and exterior factors in meeting differing consumer needs
e) Evaluate the use of CAD software in designs
