Brief Description | This module is designed to allow the students to explore, analyse and evaluate a number of currently influential models and theories related to creativity and the creative process and to relate them their own creative processes. The student will undertake research into literature on creativity and the creative process and write a substantial essay based on their research and scholarship in that area. |
Indicative Syllabus | This module will run as weekly two-hour seminars. The seminars will focus on subject-related readings and discussion. Topics/themes will be chosen from among: Defining and measuring creativity; creativity and personality; cognitive models of creativity; social models of creativity; creativity and culture; development of creativity; education and creativity; creativity and mental illness. |
Learning Outcomes | A student passing this module should be able to: 1. demonstrate a broad understanding of the models and theories related to creativity and the creative process 2. apply the theories and models studied to their own creative processes as artists 3. research independently and grasp the practical demands and disciplines involved in research which is being geared toward dissemination to a wider audience, with an awareness of procedures involved in research for, and dissemination of, scholarly texts. 4. structure the results of their own studies and research in a professionally communicated, substantial and coherent essay 5. undertake research in a variety of modes geared to the production of theoretical and critical text 6. discuss, analyse and evaluate the creative process in the light of theories and models studied. |
