Brief Description | This module will introduce the student to Experimental and Transgressive writing. The module will look at a number of issues surrounding literary innovation, taboo and non-mainstream culture. Students will explore a number of key theories surrounding the profane and will study a number of artistic texts that have dealt with subjects such as sex and gender, violence, drugs, horror and political subversion. The nodule will also engage with hybrid texts including digi-novels, bricolage, detournement, cut-ups and appropriated texts |

Learning Outcomes | A student passing this module should be able to: 1.synthesise knowledge and understanding of, and an ability to analyse and evaluate, a range of theories related to experimental and transgressive writing; 2. appreciate the relationship between taboo and transgression; 3. determine the creative relationship between theory and practice; 4. experiment, explore taboo concepts and take creative risks; 5. discuss the politics and poetics of the concept of transgression; 6. articulate an understanding of how non-mainstream writing can potentially critique and subvert various cultural and political hegemonies. |
