Brief Description | The dissertation is a piece of work independently conceived and produced by the student. It has a maximum length of 10,000 words and should engage with a topic approved by teaching staff in the student's subject group. It is also possible to engage in an inter-disciplinary project. |
Indicative Syllabus | Once the topic is agreed during the semester prior to the start of the module, students can expect up to 7.5 hours of supervision throughout the course of the dissertation. This will be a combination of individual and small group tutorials and lecture/workshop sessions to support generic issues of identifying suitable resources, referencing and presentation. The nature of the supervision will vary according to the kind of project undertaken, students should expect to see their tutors regularly, to provide material in draft and to make use of feedback. Although supervisors will often give advice on reading, the responsibility for drawing up the bibliography rests with the student. |
