Brief Description | The module develops student skills as a social educator, be it within community settings in a particular locality, a youth and/or community setting, a leaving care project, or an educationally based service for people with learning or physical disabilities or mental health problems. It is also appropriate to trainers. It considers the process of adult education and assessment, especially in relation to work competence, social and transferable skills and citizenship and will consider issues such as sexual health, drug usage, or community action in relation to local political decisions. |

Learning Outcomes | i. Knowledge and Understanding On successful completion of the module the students should be able to: a) Critically evaluate the theories surrounding education of social skills, gentle teaching, transferable and key skills; b) Critically evaluate key theories of adult education and assessment, including their application in the area of disability; c) Critically analyse group dynamics and conflict management; d) Critically examine the impact of SENDA 2001; d) Critically evaluate the role of education as a form of emancipation or liberation.
