Brief Description

The module enables students to pursue an area of academic interest related to health and social care practice through the development of an individual programme of study negotiated with an appropriate tutor with some expertise in the area.

Indicative Syllabus

Research or evaluation of an area of particular interest within the Health, Community and Social Care field arising out of their personal or professional development.

Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On successful completion of the module the students should be able to:
a) Discuss research findings in a selected area of study.
b) Reflect upon the relevance of the findings to practice.



ii. Skills
On successful completion of the module the students should be able to:
a) Identify an appropriate topic for research in health and social care
b) Demonstrate skills in searching for relevant materials
c) Demonstrate the ability to work independently under supervision
d) Demonstrate connections between research findings and practice issues

Learning and Teaching Activities

Staff student contact approx 3.5 hrs (to include: individual tutorials, negotiated learning programme)
Student independent study 98% (to include: seminar presentation to student group)
