Brief Description | This module will enable students to understand the legal and policy context of health, community and social care practice and will include an overview of legal structures and legal process. There will be input on legal and policy aspects of housing, employment, benefits, health, social care and criminal justice. |
Indicative Syllabus | The module will begin with an overview of the relationship between law and social policy and the sources and process for legislative change. There will be an overview of the difference between civil and criminal law. The module will overview the key features and purpose of particular pieces of legislation and existing social policy initiatives across housing, employment, benefits, health, social care and criminal justice. It will move on to look at future or proposed initiatives in these areas, in the light of social change and demographic trends. Discussions will focus on some current social problems, with particular reference to needs, rights, responsibilities, social injustice, citizenship, equality and cultural issues. |
