Brief Description

Graphic Design combines great ideas and concepts with immaculate execution. This Self Authorship module offers students the opportunity, within a series of modules with more prescriptive content, to develop their own brief and explore areas of knowledge and understanding, curiosity and creative self expression.  Students will be encouraged to analyze and reflect on past, current or predictive design influences.

Indicative Syllabus

Students are required to create a substantial piece of work that demonstrates an understanding of their own design practice and career ambitions.  Students will research and creatively develop a personal project proposal which will allow them to demonstrate their ideas, attitudes and making skills.  The module requires students to challenge current conventions and to consider the context of their ideas.  Outcomes may be expressed in any media – for example in print, moving image or three dimensions.

Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
By the end of the module students should be able to demonstrate that they:
a) understand the importance of research and intellectual curiosity
b) understand how to translate and develop the content of their research



ii. Skills
By the end of the module, students should have developed skills in:
a) visual and written research and information processing
b) the execution and production of concepts
c) time management and organization
