Brief Description

Experimentation with language and use of powerful typography can be key ingredients in the most successful pieces of print design.  As creative designers, the opportunities for the exploration of typographic ideas, for investigating layout and composition are a platform from which to express individuality.  As people read less and obtain more of their information from other media, contemporary readers who may be distracted by more dynamic modes of presentation will demand more responsive print material.

Indicative Syllabus

The module will concentrate on the exploration of a range of techniques and approaches associated with the design and construction of print design. In addition students will be required to analyse and deconstruct existing forms of print.  Emphasis will be placed on the relationship between layout, image selection and consumer requirements.  Project based work will also focus on the development of ideas and the creative execution of design concepts.  Students will be required to complete in-depth research, both written and visual, to support their practical outcomes, to explore contemporary print design and typographic traditions and formats and to express structure and narrative.
