Brief Description This module expands upon the theory and practical experience gained at Level II, focusing on ArcGIS applications including data acquisition.
Indicative Syllabus For users, already familiar with the basics of GIS, this module develops practical experience of the advanced functionality available in ArcGIS, including the opportunity for applied investigation of complex spatial analysis and visualisation, geospatial database management and transference of GPS and LiDAR survey. The module also involves engagement with practitioners who are actively using GIS and remote sensing in the workplace.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and understanding
By the end of the module, the student should be able to demonstrate that they:
are able to explain in depth how GIS software functions;
a)  appreciate the wider context of geographical information science;
b)  can critically evaluate the relative importance of and integrate material from a variety of sources, including digital and field-based data;
c)  can plan an integrated technological approach to a spatial investigation with topical relevance in an appropriate discipline.



ii. Skills
By the end of the module, the student should be able to demonstrate that they:
a)  have an ability to use and critically evaluate GIS packages;
b)  have developed effective individual problem-solving skills within a GIS setting.
