Brief Description | The module will examine the geography of conflict and global development in the 21st Century. It provides students with the opportunity to learn about the links between conflict and poverty and engage with the theory and practice of conflict management and sustainable development in a range of global contexts. |
Indicative Syllabus | This module will introduce theories of development, conflict and security including key concepts of the importance of conflict and security to development. It will draw on examples of conflict such as state-state, civil war, community urban conflict and gangs, piracy, terrorism and corruption .The module will draw on case studies such as Sierra Leone, Uganda, Sri Lanka, Congo and Somalia. |
Learning Outcomes | i. Knowledge and understanding ii. Skills On completion of this module students will have: a) practised conflict resolution in a simulated environment; b) acquired skills in conflict management; c) developed their ability to express their thinking in oral and written form. |
