Brief Description This module provides the opportunity to build on previous experience and understanding to establish an individual artistic objective within a continuous personal practice. Students undertake practical and contextual research to define and evaluate core issues central to their work, with particular reference to content and process.
Indicative Syllabus

Students are supported in defining the practical and theoretical contexts to their work and in developing strategies towards establishing a sustainable and ongoing work process. The nature of the work undertaken for this module is to be negotiated with the tutor(s) in tutorials and documented in a study agreement. The agreement should clearly identify the proposed work to be undertaken and appropriate strategies for research and experimentation. Group work will play a large part in the development of personal practice.

Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
By the end of the module students should be able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of:
a) communicating a plan and strategy for self-initiated work with appropriate written and visual support
b) the historic and contemporary context of their personal practice
c) Strategies for project development and resolution, and a level of enquiry appropriate to Level III



ii. Skills
By the end of the module students will be expected to have skills in:
a) the analysis and planning of a programme of work to achieve exploratory artistic objectives
b) utilising a range of technologies as appropriate and working successfully within limited time constraints
c) critically evaluating outcomes to enable personal and artistic progression

Staff/Student contact: 20% (lectures, workshops, tutorials)
Student directed learning: 80%
