Brief Description | This module will introduce students to the professional practices associated with the film industry. Students will have the option to attempt to secure a period of work placement, conduct a survey of employment opportunities appropriate to their career aspirations or manage a film related project or event (e.g. screening event, festival event, film marketing campaign) |
Indicative Syllabus | The module will begin to prepare students for employment or further study after graduation, via a series of lectures and workshops from visiting professionals, plus a number of practical workshops covering a range of transferable skills appropriate to self-promotion, employability and further study. A work placement report, event management report or a career opportunities survey will demonstrate understanding of these professional practices. |
Learning Outcomes | i. Knowledge and Understanding b) comprehensively understand employment opportunities, business structures and roles within the film and associated industries c) critically articulate these elements in a work placement report or careers opportunities survey. or: a) plan a project or event and schedule, manage and execute it to a professional standard b) design a relevant and meaningful marketing and promotion plan accounting for the needs of film audiences c) work effectively within constraints (e.g. intellectual property, budgets) d) develop a plan for financing and evaluating the project e) critically evaluate success against objectives in an event management report ii. Skills Students who have successfully completed the module should be able to: either: a) observe and record the working practices and organisational structures to provide a resource for future career planningb) effectively communicate with individuals and groups within the film industry appropriate to employment enhancement c) demonstrate skills in research and evaluation or: a) utilise effective group working in the planning and organisation of a project b) employ effective communication skills and budgeting and accounting skills c) demonstrate professionalism in their ability to work to deadlines and work with relevant partners d) demonstrate skills in critical assessment and evaluation of the project |
