Brief Description | This module will provide students with an opportunity to undertake a negotiated project with an explicit link to the working environment of the students’ area of study and/or to undertake a further period of work experience or professional practice. Students will be required to agree a Learning Contract with their module tutor, clearly defining the nature of the project and or/placement they wish to undertake and agreeing the specific learning outcomes as they relate to the project/placement and the outcomes to be presented for assessment. This module allows students to update their PDP files in the light of experience gained and skills acquired in the undertaking of the work related project and/or placement. |
Indicative Syllabus | Students are required to undertake a project and/or placement with an explicit link to the professional, working environment related to their discipline area. The nature and scope of the project and/or placement should be negotiated with the module tutor leading to the production of a Learning Contract prior to the commencement of the project or placement.The project and/or placement must have a direct link with the world of work in that it should involve an external client, business, organisation, funding body, gallery or exhibition venue etc. or have a direct association with the career aspirations or preparation for employment of the student. Examples of appropriate projects include: 1) The undertaking of a commissioned piece of art, design or media work with a real client 2) The organisation and mounting of a group or solo exhibition. The scope of such an exhibition could vary considerably in term of the number of exhibitors, location of gallery/venue, the need for publicity material, private view, budget, fund raising, catalogue etc. but should involve negotiation with external individuals, businesses or organisations 3) The preparation of material for self-promotion and entry to freelance practice or for employment. This could include the design and production of a digital portfolio for promotion on the web or CD/DVD or as a showreel, the design and production of personal freelance or new business/corporate identity material and a business plan 4) The negotiation, organization and undertaking of a period of work placement in an organization, business or with a freelance designer, illustrator, photographer appropriate to the career aspirations of the student. |
