Brief Description

The module aims to explore students' perceptions of the image of the child and children as creative beings.

Indicative Syllabus

The module will cover the following topics:

  • opportunities to promote the child as a creative and competent learner from birth;
  • supporting creative children through reflection upon self as creative practitioners;
  • opportunities to experience, reflect upon and analyse a range of different media including: dance, art and music;
  • a wide range of 'languages' as a means of strengthening students' understanding of child development and their role as senior practitioners in leading and supporting creative learning.

 

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Examine the philosophies supporting the child as a competent, creative learner;
  2. Explain how creative learning experiences can develop children's holistic development and lifelong learning potential;
  3. Plan, evaluate, lead and support others in provocations to support children as creative learners;
  4. Enhance children's 'languages' of communication;
  5. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how creative learning can be supported throughout the curriculum areas;
  6. Recognise the social, historical and cultural context of creative learning and its impact upon lifelong learning potential.
