Brief Description |
The module aimsto examine the most recent curricula for children birth to eight in relation to the holistic development of the child and domains of knowledge. |
Indicative Syllabus |
The module will cover the following topics:
- areas of learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum Key Stage 1 for children from birth to eight;
- opportunities to support development in creativity, physical and personal, social and emotional competence, language and mathematical skills, knowledge and understanding of the world;
- reflection upon and evaluation of how students provide for areas of learning within their workplace;
- how ICT can support children's learning;
- how students promote inclusion and meet individual needs within areas of knowledge.

Learning Outcomes |
A student passing this module should be able to:
- Analyse their current practice in relation to areas of learning within the EYFS and the National Curriculum where appropriate;
- Articulate with confidence how children learn in a range of subjects by exemplification from within the workplace;
- Review how ICT is used in the workplace to support children's learning and identify how this can be enhanced;
- Analyse existing planning approaches within the setting;
- Analyse current provision to support developmentally appropriate learning in relation to inclusion and lifelong learning
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how child development theory supports developmentally appropriate practice, lifelong learning and sustainable futures.
