Brief Description |
The module aims: This module will extend students' knowledge and understanding of their role as a Senior Practitioner within an early years team and will examine the provision for early years within the wider community. In addition this module will continue to further students' academic capabilities. |
Indicative Syllabus |
This module will cover the following topics:
- extension of students' skills in reflecting upon and analysing their day to day practice in the workplace;
- work based study that focuses upon the student's role as leaders and supporters of others within the workplace;
- team theory;
- skills in disseminating best practice;
- the extent to which their workplace supports children's learning through the use of out of setting opportunities such as local museums, art galleries, theatres and wildlife centres
- extension of the development of academic skills such as collaborative and cooperative learning, interpersonal skills, communicating effectively with parents, carers and other professionals, through a variety of media;
- the effective use of journals to enhance students’ knowledge base, and comparing sources of information;
- personal and professional target setting and development in relation to benchmark statements;
- career and CV advice.

Learning Outcomes |
A student passing this module should be able to:
- Analyse their work based practice against current research in early years;
- Explore the role of an effective leader and supporter within the workplace;
- Examine and apply the principles and practice of team theory;
- Enhance the provision within their setting by utilising opportunities within the wider community;
- Articulate an enhanced understanding of themselves as academic learners and their need for continuing professional development;
- Demonstrate an enhanced understanding of professionalism and CPD within the sector in relation to government policy and legislation and professional attributes.
