Brief Description

The module aims: to provide opportunity to support the student in reflecting upon their work based practice as they aspire to become a Senior Practitioner within early years.

Indicative Syllabus

This module will cover the following topics:

  • reflection upon the workplace skills and professional attributes needed to be a reflective Senior Practitioner;
  • pedagogical literacy within the early years sector;
  • models that support the development of reflective practice;
  • professionalism, ethics and data protection;
  • legislation and practice guidance;
  • reflection upon why students do what they do in the workplace using examples of their day to day experiences;
  • relating theory to their own practice;
  • PDP used as the basis for reflection, personal target setting and professional development.
Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Identify how their practice meets the legislative and guidance requirements of the early years sector;
  2. Recognise how current research of best practice in early years can improve the quality of their practice;
  3. Employ reflective frameworks within the workplace to support both personal and professional development;
  4. Identify and implement realistic and practical PDP targets in order to develop their existing practice to become more effective;
  5. Adhere to the principles of ethical professional practice;
  6. Model professional values by being ambitious, excellent, committed and respectful.
