Brief Description The module examines notions of postmodernity, with a particular focus on 'femininity', 'masculinity', the politics of representation, sexuality, performativity, technology and cyberculture. The module is text-based, but includes reference to a range of film and visual material.
Indicative Syllabus This module will explore theoretical approaches to notions of postmodernity and, with an emphasis on seminar discussion investigate this body of cultural theory in relation to a number of literary texts. The emphasis will be on the ways in which gender, sexuality and the body are represented in postmodern texts.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding

By the end of the module students should be able to demonstrate that they:
a) are familiar with a range of postmodern texts;
b) are familiar with postmodern theory and related critical material;
c) are able to analyse literary and other forms of representation in the light of postmodern theory.



ii. Skills
Skills will include analysis of theoretical and cultural texts: verbal communication.
