Brief Description This module explores the relationship between psychoanalysis and writing by exploring some of the key psychoanalytic theories. Debates centred around the issues of sexuality and writing, gender and genre and the construction/representation of sexuality will provide the module focus. A selection of theoretical, fictional and filmic explorations will be studied in the context of the theories propounded by their psychoanalytic forebears.

Learning Outcomes i. Knowledge and Understanding
By the end of the module students will:
a) be familiar with a range of psychoanalytic texts and theories;
b) be familiar with a range of perspectives on, and critiques of, psychoanalytic theory;
c) be able to analyse literary and/or film texts with reference to their theoretical reading.



ii. Skills
Skills will include analysis of theoretical and cultural texts; literature search and bibliographic construction; verbal communication.
