Brief Description | This module will guide students through writing in English in the period 1580 - 1700, providing different pathways to do so. These pathways are provided within a historical conspectus of the broad generic divisions of drama, poetry and prose. This double module complements other modules in the EN field, in providing substantial knowledge of and engagement with English writing from the Early Modern period onwards. |

Learning Outcomes | i. Knowledge and Understanding At the end of the module students should have: a) engaged with a substantial selection of the literature written between 1580 and 1700. b) followed the development of the major forms of this writing from the early Modern period through to the Restoration and the Revolution of 1688. c) understood some of the social and gender divisions that have shaped this writing, and will be attuned to its formal specificity. ii.
