Brief Description This module will focus on strategic management accounting. It will address the importance of financial information to managers. Students will also develop their ability to: apply financial techniques; analyse financial information and evaluate company financial statements.
Indicative Syllabus Some topic will develop materials covered within CODE Managing Resources, for example budgeting and format of accounts. Students will cover such topics as: inter company comparisons; Uniform system of Accounts; performance measurement; investment appraisal; analysing financial statements.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On completion of this module students should be able to:
a) Critically evaluate the use and limitations of internal and published financial reports;
b) Identify and evaluate the relationship between financial analysis and the management roles of planning, controlling and performance measurement; and
c) Apply selected techniques and evaluate current issues relevant to strategic management accounting.

Students will be given the opportunity to develop their key skills in the following areas during the course of this module:
Area 1: Application of numerical techniques
Area 6: ICT
Area 7: Specific vocational skills
a) Demonstrate competence in analysis of financial reports
