Brief Description This module critically analyses the external environment, political, historical, cultural issues and environmental impact in relation to large scale events. It allows students to reflect upon their placements and critically analyse any such factors encountered upon their placements.
Indicative Syllabus This module seeks to critically analyse the place of large scale events within the market place, it will include: history of large scale events; large scale events and society; the role of government in the bidding process; large scale events as a mechanism for economic and business development; external factors influencing large scale events; large scale events as a driver for change.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On completion of this module students should be able to:
a) Critically analyse the characteristics of large scale events;
b) Evaluate the impact of large scale events within its macro environment;
c) Evaluate the political nature of large scale events and how this is manifested from bidding through to evaluation and legacy;
d) Critically evaluate the extent to which event management theory is practised within large-scale events and what impact this has upon the development of event management as a profession.
