Brief Description

Decision making is a key management function. This module will assist students in identifying appropriate information requirements for a range of management decision. Specific Management Accounting tools to aid management decision making wil be explored.

Indicative Syllabus The range of topic will include: Sources of data. What is information? Defining management information needs. Ensuring information is meaningful and relevant information. The use of internal and external information sources. Presentation of information. The use of computers to aid management decision making. Understanding internal operating statistics. Using government statistics and industry studies. Information for 'what if' decisions.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On completion of this module students should be able to:
a) Apply theoretical concepts to management decision making
b) Analyse information to make informed decisions
c) Evaluate the appropriateness of different management accounting techniques.



Skills
Students will be given the opportunity to develop their key skills in the following areas during the course of this module:
Area 1: Application of numerical techniques
Area 6: ICT
