Brief Description This module will introduce students to the necessary theoretical, practical and industry-specific knowledge needed to be able to identify risks and to acknowledge the social context of risk.
Indicative Syllabus The module seeks to establish a framework within which students can develop appropriate risk prevention strategies for the safe management of industry specific activities. The module considers examples of good practice and analyses the legal concepts to gain a thorough understanding of risk management strategies.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On completion of the module the students should be able to:
a) Demonstrate a critical awareness of the broader concepts and perceptions of risk in society
b) Analyse the different types of risk assessment tools and be able to make effective use of them
c) Assess the distinctions between the hazards and risks, real and perceived
d) Demonstrate a critical understanding of different risk prevention strategies
e) Explain the key legal concepts associated with risk management

Students will be given the opportunity to develop their key skills in the following areas during the course of this module:
