Brief Description

This module will develop knowledge and understanding about the characteristics and attributes required to lead others in a range of educational settings and will consider roles and responsibilities and a range of approaches.

Indicative Syllabus

This module will cover the following topics:

 

models of mentoring and coaching;

leading others;

models of leadership

attributes and characteristics of professionals;

managing change;

appraising others;

ethical practice;

supervision

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:...

 

1. Be able to analyse current research of best practice against which s/he can use to benchmark and evaluate own practice and that of others;

2. Identify and implement realistic and practical changes to improve practice;

3. Confidently apply an evaluative approach to work practices that allow promotion of best practice, including productive safeguarding procedures;

4. Interact and communicate effectively with a team, be responsive to the needs of the team;

5. Recognise and ameliorate situations likely to cause conflict, including the role of ethnicity, culture, gender, disability and belief;

6. Understand principles of CPD in the context of their setting and the organisation of learning in the workplace.
