Brief Description | This module aims to consider specific conditions and approaches and ways of addressing these to maximise involvement. Typically these might include disadvantaged groups such as looked after children or those with autism, dyslexia or sensory impairment. Students will explore ways of making physical adaptations to enable students to overcome barriers to learning, and the selection of appropriate approaches and systems to support development. |
Indicative Syllabus | This module will cover the following topics:
specific conditions; the impact of the context, such as membership of a minority ethnic group, approaches to managing specific conditions; making physical adaptations; understanding a range of needs; removing barriers to learning. |
Learning Outcomes | A student passing this module should be able to:...
1. Understand key aspects of the Code of Practice for SEN; 2. Be aware of specific learning difficulties including: speech, language and communication, autism and emotional, social and behavioural difficulties; 3. Have awareness of specific approaches for addressing a range of educational needs including those that arise from culture and belief; 4. Explore ways of making physical adaptations to help overcome barriers to learning; 5. Create and manage an inclusive learning environment; 6. Work with other adults including a range of other professionals and families, especially where issues of safeguarding arise. |
