Brief Description

This module aims to introduce students to the concept of behaviour management and make them aware of approaches adopted by practitioners in recent years.  Theoretical perspectives will be considered and there will be a practical application of skills relevant to a range of educational settings.

Indicative Syllabus

This module will cover the following topics:

 

what has been introduced, with varying degrees of success, in recent years to deal with behaviour issues;

the connection between behaviour and learning;

the connection between behaviour and gender, ethinicity, disability and culture;

the connection between behaviour and issues that give cause for concern;

approaches to behaviour for learning;

the impact of behaviour on the learning of others;

practical forms of intervention.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:...

 

1. Understand the competing theories of Behaviour Management;

2. Appreciate the background to the formation of competing theories of behaviour management;

3. Understand the role of Inclusion in educational settings in relation to behaviour;

4. Understand the role of equal opportunities in the construction of a particular approach to Behaviour Management;

5. Observe learners and consider how best to manage their learning;

6. Apply strategies to communicate effectively with others in order to promote positive behaviour.
