Brief Description

This module aims to introduce the concept of Special Needs to participants and to examine major policy initiatives introduced over the last twenty years which have had direct impact on children with Special Educational Needs.

Indicative Syllabus -

The module explores issues around working with children with Special Educational Needs. Students analyse ways in which Special Needs can act as barriers to development with a focus on analysing ways these barriers can be broken down through use of particular approaches and systematic learning support. From the initial Warnock Report, there is a review of subsequent legislation as well as current views and students will be encouraged to analyse the impact of this on the wider educational world and individual progress.
