Brief Description The module aims to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of current national and local developments in primary education. Students will gain knowledge of resource rich learning, the creative curriculum, English as an additional language, and social, emotional and affective learning. They will learn how to transact this curriculum with all pupils through inclusive practice, and how to direct the work of other adults who support teaching and learning.
Indicative Syllabus The content of this module will focus on developing an understanding of current national and local developments in primary education. The module will include a study of inclusion, English as an additional language, aspects of SEN, assessment and ways to promote best practice through mentoring and coaching.
Learning Outcomes i. Knowledge and Understanding
By the end of the module students should be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of emerging significant issues and trends in education;
2. Demonstrate an awareness of some of the ethical, practical and social consequences of these trends.

ii. Skills
By the end of the module students should have developed skills in:
1. Evaluating the implications of such issues and trends for their work in classroom and extended school contexts;
2. Developing inclusive practice through a range of strategies;
3. Directing the work of other adults who support teaching and learning.
