Brief Description

This is a workplace module in which learners will be required to demonstrate competences and the ability to practice reflectively in the context of the Negotiated Learning Agreement. Competences selected should match work roles, but are likely to include the core competences for the children's' workforce.

Indicative Syllabus

This module will cover the following topics:

  • Further development of the complex interpersonal skills needed for work in a team and with children and young people;
  • Systems for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people through delivering the outcomes of Every Child Matters and other indicators of good practice in care;
  • Methods of recording information in line with workplace policy and practice;
  • The ability to use coaching and workplace opportunities for self-management and own continuing professional development.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On successful completion of the module students should be able to:

a) Critically apply the theory of children and young people to practice
b) Critically reflect on own practicewith children and young people's practice and the observed practice of others in order to develop own practice wisdom broaden and deepen own practice wisdom and to implement evidence based practice;
c) Apply systematic methods to the continued improvement of self management and that of others.



ii. Skills
On successful completion of the module the student should be able to:

a) Practice in a competent manner in children and young people's practice in accordance with the Negotiated Learning AgreementIn accordance with a negotiated learning agreement, demonstrate competence in practice when working with children and young people;
b) Use coaching sessions to become a competent reflective children and young people's practitioner;
c) Effectively evidence competence in a CPD portfolio;

100% Work based – supported by coaches in the workplace. 60 days concurrent
