Brief Description

This module provides an opportunity for students to study CAL from a range of perspectives

Indicative Syllabus

The module will explore the relationship between learning theories and the design of CAL systems as well as provide a thorough understanding of the aspects concerned with CAL systems in a range of environments. Furthermore students will be encouraged to developed frameworks, which critically evaluate CAL systems.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. investigate the concepts and conditions of  learning and their relationships to various methods of learning and training vis computer based materials,
  2. analyse and critically evaluate CAL and CBT packages with regard to user and organisational needs,
  3. the breadth and depth of knowledge sufficient to make rational and informed decisions about CAL, CBT and multimedia as education/training tools,
  4. an opportunity to question, explore and suggest alternative solutions to current issues,
  5. apply problem solving strategies via critical evaluation methods when dealing with CAL and CBT software,
  6. be independent in self learning, planning and managing information.
