Brief Description

This module broadens students' critical perspective on the financial, managerial and strategic aspects of ICTs in business, and focuses in particular on systems strategy and integration and e-business processes. The module commences by investigating the links between business strategy and information technology (IT) and information systems (IS) strategies. It develops by investigating the use of technology in determining and maintaining competitive edge; and assesses the significance of key issues and critical success factors in ensuring benefits delivery in technology projects. Particular emphasis is given to the analysis of practical situations and case studies. The need to integrate the IS and IT strategies with those of the organisation is explored. This forms a basis for the development of ideas on IS and e-business strategy formulation, and an investigation into the strategic IS options which are available to organisations in particular cases.
