Brief Description

The principles of human-computer interaction are considered in a variety of application areas which may vary from year to year. Topical subjects include virtual reality, computer supported collaborative working and video-conferencing. The module broadens students' critical perspective of current issues in human computer interaction considered from a various perspectives such as user characterizations, systems evaluation and user-centered issues with developing technologies.

Indicative Syllabus

The module covers the principles of good computing ergonomics from the technologies and the importance of Human Computer Interaction within the business technology environment

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. critically evaluate the issues surrounding various aspects of human computer interaction such as designing for different user groups,
  2. critically review the needs of different user types,
  3. evaluate and synthesise user problems that arise from new technologies,
  4. expose weaknesses in interface design through critical evaluation and propose effective solutions,
  5. use a wide range of scholastic research skills to synthesise their findings which will be disseminated through assessment.
