Brief Description

The module affords the opportunity for students to undertake a supervised work-based activity during the Semester 3 as part of study for a fast-track degree. This activity can be a period of work in industry, the community, contract work for a commercial client, volunteer organization or work for the University. A tutor must approve the activity, before it is undertaken, to ensure it is appropriate to the course of study and the requirements of the module.

 

Indicative Syllabus

The module will start with workshops to prepare students to undertake suitable work and activity, and to assist them in the selections of suitable work activities. In addition there will be supervisor meetings to assess progress and help students highlight achievements as well as document their personal learning and development.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Identify their learning needs and produce a personal development plan,
  2. Undertake an approved work activity and complete it to a satisfactory standard,
  3. Give a verbal presentation to an audience on the work activity highlighting outcomes and personal achievements,
  4. Communicate through a written report personal progress and achievements throughout the work activity,
  5. Apply skills relevant for academic progression and career development within the sector.
